Sculptures of Dasavatarams.
The Dasavatarams of Maha Vishnu represents the ten principal incarnations taken by Vishnu to restore cosmic order and protect righteousness. They are Matsya (the fish), Kurma (the tortoise), Varaha (the boar), and Narasimha (the man-lion), which appear in the early mythic ages. These are followed by Vamana (the dwarf), Parashurama (the warrior sage), and Rama (the ideal king of the Ramayana). The eighth and ninth avatars are Krishna, the divine statesman and teacher of the Bhagavad Gita, and Buddha, who taught compassion and non-violence. The tenth and final incarnation, Kalki, is yet to appear and is prophesied to come at the end of the present age to destroy evil. Together, the ten avatars symbolize the evolution of life and consciousness and Vishnu’s continuous protection of the universe.
