Shri Dhenupureeswarar Temple, Madambakkam, TN
Dhenupurisvarar temple is located in Madambakkam near Tambaram, Chennai. This temple is dedicated to lord Shiva! The temple was built during the reign of the Chola king, Parantaka Chola II, father of the Great Raja Raja Chola I, who constructed the world famous Brihadeeswarar Temple at Thanjavur. Kulothunga Chols I during his reign added some more structures to this temple. Well preserved Chola scriptures and pillars with outstanding sculptures are seen in front of the sanctum sanctorum. The sculptures date back to Vijayanagara Empire.
This temple is particularly famous for Sarabeswarar sculpture to which people pray on Sunday evenings!
It is a protected monument and presently this temple is under the care of Archaeological Survey of India.
