The onslaught of commercialisation is destroying the heritage of most of our cities in India.
Calcutta was the first city in India to witness the colonial architecture. Some of the outstanding examples of colonial architecture are still standing tall in Kolkatta.
The heritage buildings which are the DNA of Calcutta’s individuality is slowly crumbling because of lack of maintenance or neglect or demolished by design to make way for modern buildings. Whatever is the reason for its destruction the fact is that we are destroying our heritage systematically and it is very sad!
In the midst of this destruction some have managed to stay intact for decades some even over hundred years!
Here are some pictures of heritage houses of Kolkata.
