Jalakandeswarar Temple, Vellore, TN
Jalakandeswarar Temple is to Lord Shiva and it is located in the Vellore Fort, Tamil Nadu State, India. This belongs to the Vijaynagar period and it is under the control of the Archaeological Survey of India. It is declared as a National Monument. Now this temple is under worship although it was interrupted during the invasion of Muslim rulers for few years!
The Jalakanteshwara Temple is a fine example of Vijayanagaram Architecture. It has exquisite carvings on its tower, richly carved stone pillars, stunning monoliths and sculptures. Nayaka dynasty rulers built this temple in 1550CE.
The Gopuram or the tower of this temple is over 100 ft. in height. The temple also has a Mandapam, with the hall supported by carved stone pillars of dragons, horses and yalis (lion like creature)
