Kailasanathar Temple, Kanchipuram, TN
This Kailasanathar Temple is in Kancheepuram. There are few more temples in the same name in different parts of Tamil Nadu. The one which is located in Kancheepuram was built during the 6th century and hence one of the earliest structural temples of south India. It is dedicated to Lord Shive and the construction of it was started by  the Pallava king -Narasimhavarman II (Rajasimha). The construction work was completed by his son  Mahendravarman III. The low-slung sandstone compound contains a large number of carvings, including many half-animal deities which were popular during the early Dravidian architectural period. The structure contains 58 small shrines which are dedicated to various forms of Shiva. These are built into niches on the inner face of the high compound wall of the circumambulatory passage.
