Parimala Ranganathar temple, Mayiladuthurai
Parimala Ranganathar temple is dedicated to God Vishnu, and it is in Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu. Here Parimala Ranganathar is 12-foot-long, and he is in a reclining posture, carved from green stone and facing east. The sanctum also has sculptures of the goddesses Kaveri and Ganga.
The temple is believed to have been constructed during the Chola period, with later contributions from the Vijayanagara and Nayak dynasties. The pillars in the Garuda Mandapam are intricately carved with depictions of the 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu. The name Parimala Ranganathar references the fragrance that Vishnu imparted to the Vedas, after retrieving them from the demons Madhu and Kaitabha during the Matysa Avataram.
The pillars in the corridor before the ardha mandapam have several amazing sculptures, which are not to be missed!
