Tanjore Maratha Palace
The Maratha Palace in Thanjavur, also known as the Thanjavur Maratha Palace, is a vast complex that dates back to the rule of the Thanjavur Maratha dynasty from the 17th century onwards. It includes important structures such as the Durbar Hall, the Arsenal Tower, the Sardar Mahal, and the Raja Serfoji Saraswathi Mahal Library. The palace is famous for its massive bell tower, underground passages, and richly decorated halls that reflect a blend of Maratha and Dravidian architectural styles. The Saraswathi Mahal Library inside the complex is one of the oldest in Asia, housing thousands of rare manuscripts in Sanskrit, Tamil, and other languages. Today, parts of the palace function as a museum and library, showcasing royal artifacts, paintings, and weapons.
