Vitthala temple, Hampi, Karnataka
The Vitthala temple represent the highest watermark of the Vijayanagara style of art and architecture. It is one of the largest temples of that period, built under the patronage of Devaraya II. Substantial portion of the temple hs been added during the Krishnadevaraya's period. This temple is built on a sculptured ornate plinth. The composite pillars of the mandapam (congregation hall) are massive carved out of single granite which are designed as clusters  of slender pillard. Some ofthese pillars when gently tapped product musical notes.
The "Stone Chariot", as it is often referred to is the flagship tourist attraction of Hampi. This is not a chariot ,as the name suggests, rather a shrine built like a chariot. This is located inside the Vittala Temple campus.
This temple is notified as part of the World Heritage Site - called as Group of monuments at Hampi, Karnataka, India in the year 1986 by UNESCO!
